Cruise Pool

“Hurry up,” I urged Erika and Daddy, “Get your bathing suits on.”

“Stop rushing me.  I’m going as fast as I can,” Erika yelled running over.

“Let’s go,” Said Daddy grabbing out goggles.

We took the elevator up to the Lido deck and walked over to the pool.  Erika and I grabbed my goggles and jumped into the cold, salty water.  I was glad I had goggles or my eyes would burn.  Erika resurfaced coughing.

“I accidentally swallowed some water,” she told me.

I helped her out of the pool and went into the cafe to get Erika some juice to get rid of the salty taste in her throat.  Erika felt a whole lot better.  Especially because she got the salty taste away.  We hopped back into the pool and played shark.  Daddy was the shark, Erika and I had to swim away from him.  We played shark for a while but I started to get bored.

“Daddy can we go on the slide,” Erika asked.

“Sure,” Daddy replied.

We walked over to the long line waiting to slide down the slide.  In no time it was my turn to go down.  I grabbed onto the rusty pole, backed myself up and swung forward.  I felt the cold water on my back pushing me down the slide.  Good thing it’s not salty I thought.  The slide was so thrilling I went on it again.  Again I propelled down the slide.  At the bottom Erika and Daddy were waiting.

It was a Thanksgiving evening. I Rebecca Mone age 10, and a swimmer was heaping my plate with food. It all smelled so good. i got some turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn bread, peas, sausage balls, cheesy potato soup and artichoke dip. The food smelled so good. I sat down by my cousins Allison 10yrs old, and a competitive swimmer who likes to brag about her swimming abilities and Gracie 9yrs old, and a kind figure skater who loves people that share her name.

"Hey Rebecca I got a zone cut (a cut for the biggest for the 100 free (4 lengths of freestyle) last night. I bet you’re no closer than before," Allison bragged.

"Got one last week," I replied, "In the 100 free too."

After saying that I saw her smile turn into a frown.

"I started training with Gracie Grosvenor! She saw me skating in a tournament and said I have a lot of talent," Gracie smiled changing the topic to figure skating, "We're name twins."

"I can't wait to see the London Olympics next year. I bet you $10 Michael Phelps isn't going to get more gold metals than In Beijing," I dared.

"Deal," said Ashley.

"This turkey is yummy. Did you try the Trash Puffs. They don't actually have anything to do with trash. I love them," Gracie exclaimed, "You should start eating so we can get seconds faster."

Trash Puffs are doughy puffs filled with anything.

Madame Annabelle looked out my window to see a white figure moving towards her.
“Help, help The Spanite is sinking,” it chanted.
As it neared she noticed the face then the body.  Old, fragile Mrs. Rubin, the owner of Shimmering Lake Hotel heard her let out a piercing shriek.  As quick as lightning Madame Annabelle ran to Mrs. Rubin’s room.

“I can’t bear it any longer!  These ghostly events are driving me crazy,” Madame Annabelle yelled.

“What are you talking about,” asked Mrs. Rubin.

“I have seen many paranormal things during my visit!  I thought I was hallucinating but I’m not,” Madame Annabelle said.

“Can you describe the events?  I’ll get somebody to investigate,” Mrs. Rubin replied.

“I would like a room without windows and I’ll write it down when I leave tomorrow,” Madame Annabelle.

“Ok, goodnight Madame Annabelle.  Here are the keys to room 718.  No windows,” Mrs. Rubin said worriedly.

The next morning Mrs. Rubin came over to my house to tell me about the mystery.

“Oh Bella.  My patrons have been telling me about paranormal events that have been happening.  I’m running out of business,” Mrs. Rubin exclaimed, “I came here to ask you if you would like to investigate.”

“I’d be glad to,” I Bella Louis age 16 said.

I asked my best friends Aly and Sophia to assist me.  Aly was an athletic blond who craved a good mystery.  Sophia on the other hand was very protective but would never let a friend down.  Together we’re a perfect team.

It was a bright summer morning.  I started packing my bags because I was going to stay at Shimmering Lake Hotel in Shimmering Lake City to solve the mystery.  Around noon I drove over to Aly’s house to pick her up.  She came running out with her suitcase and hopped right into the car.

“Let’s get Sophia,” she said.

I drove over to Sophia’s house to pick her up.  In no time we were at Shimmering Lake Hotel.

“Oh great you’re here,” said Mrs. Rubin, “You can have suite 598.  It has 3 beds, a large window and balcony where you can watch the ghost.”

We started to unpack in our rooms.

“Do the ghost come very near people,” asked Sophia.

“Oh never.  But they seem to approach you but never get too close,” said Mrs. Rubin, “But once it walked on the balconies.”

“Well I don’t want the bed near the balcony,” said Sophia.

“You can have the bed in the other room that is enclosed.  You can order your breakfast, lunch and dinner from your room and I would be glad to tell you about Shimmering Lake City.  Here’s a pamphlet.  Have a nice day,” Mrs. Rubin informed, “Oh and by the way, here’s a paper that states all the paranormal events.”

“Thank you Mrs. Rubin.  We’ll try to solve the mystery as fast as we can.” I said.

As soon as she left we started to discuss the mystery.

“Let’s see.  Woman chanting ‘Help, help The Spanite is sinking’, man in top hat sitting in a rowboat humming ‘Nocturne’, Kids getting chased by an old man while screaming ‘He’s going to kill us’,” I read.

“I don’t think this is a good idea,” said Sophia.

“Don’t be a scardy cat.  Let’s get something to eat.  I’m starving.  I haven’t eaten since lunch,” said Aly.

After a nice dinner we all retired to our beds, or Sophia thought we did.  Aly and I stayed on the balcony to watch the ghosts.  After a while I was starting to give up when I heard children screaming.  I looked towards the lake and saw a boat with ‘Spanite’ painted on the side sinking while a pale white woman came running out of the forest.  I nudged Aly who had fallen asleep.

“Look, it’s the woman,” I whispered.

The woman came towards us.  I ran towards her as she moved forward.  But before I could get to her she ran into the forest.  I started sprinting after her.  I knew I could not give up.  I started gaining on her until we came to a lake.  She came to a complete stop before jumping in.  I ran and jumped right on top of her.

“Aaahhhh,” she screamed, “Get off of me nimwit.  You foiled our plan.”

I realized a was touching an actual person in makeup.

“What are you trying to do?  Scare people away from here,” I asked.

“No we want the property but the owner won’t sell it,” she replied.

I took her to the police station and told Mrs. Rubin all about it.

“Now you won’t have to worry about it,” I told her.

There was never another ghost at Shimmering Lake Hotel again.

Mommy,

You are patient
You are kind

You are patient

When we are naughty
You take time to calm us all
We argue and fight
When you get us calm down
Our house is peaceful

You are kind

When we are impish
You love us when we are bad
Your heart still loves us
Your calm mood offers smiles
You love me a lot

Love is patient
Love is kind

You are Love, Mommy

You are Love

Thurs 5min Writing

It was a cold early morning in Bloomfield Hills, MI.  I walked into the loud library where everyone in the battle were gathered.  I saw part of my group asking a lady where we were supposedsd to sit so I went over too.

"Guys, our table is over there," I directed.

"But another team is there," Jaren replied.

I looked over and saw 2 people who didn't have their squirrel shirt on.  We walked over and started doing a Sudoku puzzle while waiting to start.  I felt butterflies fluttering in my stomach.  I was hoping I could win again for the second time in a row.

"Let's begin the battle," Mrs. Clark said through the mic, "I'll start by introducing our judges..."

After she introduced the judges Mrs. Truesdell said all the rules.

"Let's begin the battle!  Make sure you're using the right piece of paper," Mrs. Clark announced.

The first 2 rounds whizzed by quickly. The third round was a challenge.  I guess that's why it was called the "Challenge Round"

"That's all the question for the battle.  We'll tally the points and then announce the 6-10 book readers then 1st, 2nd and 3rd place," Mrs. Clark said, "Mrs. Reagan will pick tables to go get their lunch."

When my team was called I was starving.  All the food was laid out buffet style.  I saw grapes, oranges, celery, carrots, pizza, Doritos,

I was at my house with my neighbor Lauren, when she spotted a spider.

“Aahhhhh,” she screamed.

I quickly went over and killed it.

“I hate em’ (Spiders) they’re venomous, bite you and kill you,” yelled Lauren, looking at the black blob on the ground, “That thing scared the living daylights out of me.”

“Well actually they’re very useful,” I replied.

“No they’re creepy and poisonous,” Lauren replied, “Spiders are creepy, venomous, bitey and dangerous creatures.”

“Well it would be a disaster without them,” I replied, thinking of all the benefits of having spiders around.

“Who cares?  As long as there aren’t 8 legged creatures running around I fine with it,” she said.

Actually they don’t bite unless provoked.  You have to squeeze, squash or hit them.  When you’re bit, it’s actually your fault.  Not the Spiders.  The spider is only defending its self.

Being venomous is their weapon.  All animals have a weapon or a defense system to defend their self.  Name an animal.  Bees, their stinger.  Rabbits are fast.  Birds, they can fly.  Humans, they are smart.  Can you see?  It’s their gift.

Venom is not harmful to some people, but harmful to others.  It depends on the person’s age and health.  Some one very old or young with very bad health will have a big reaction to the venom.  On the other hand people with great health won’t even notice.  It also depends what breed of spider.  Some are more venomous than the other.

Spiders aren’t all that bad.  They help keep bugs away.  Without spiders your house will be swarming with bugs.  Spiders will make a web and catch the bugs in it.  The reason spiders don’t get caught in their own web is some parts of it isn’t sticky but only the spider knows where it’s not.

Can you see now?  Spiders aren’t all that bad.  They’re also very useful.  Now you know spiders are good.

It was a dark and early morning in England.  I was shaken awake by my little sister Clarice.

"Anne, Daddy says we have to leave.  He wants us to pack 2 dresses, 5 pairs of underpants, 2 pairs of shoes and 3 things we can't live without," she whispered, "The Nazi are have taken over Norway and the next will be England."

"Ok, Clarice.  Turn on the lights," I asked

"But Mummy told me not to or the neighbors will know.  We need to hurry.  Mummy says she heard their ships and planes are almost here," she replied.

I quickly got dressed and packed the clothing, a bracelet that my best friend Victoria gave me, my diary and my dog Minty.

"Anne, hurry up.  We have to go before the sun comes up," yelled my Mum.

I ran down stairs to my parents and sister.

"Mum where are we going," I asked her.

"Somewhere where they can't find us," she answered.

Argument post test

Mon 5min Writing

I was finally done with my Argument Essay Post test about how dogs are more useful than cats. I heard the whispers of other finished students while I wrote on my blog.  I heard people whispering their essays and other things.  Besides that the room was silent.  Everyone was typing or reading their essay.  Mr. Joseph also gave Hassel Time to someone.  Hassel Time is when you have to stay in at lunch.
