"Surface!" I yelled figuring out the answer to the last answer on our packet.

Yes we're done I thought.

"We have to turn it in to the basket!" Aria said

We rushed over to the basket and dropped the packet into the tray.  I could now do what I wanted.  I grabbed my IPad and played minecraft.

Year Round School

Year Round School is a great idea because it will help students academically achieve more.  Most kids would agree that during the summer that they experience burnouts and forget about what they learn about during the school year, so they spend the first few months reviewing what they forgot (Gale Apposing Claim).  That means kids on a traditional calendar won't learn as much during the year because they use a month or 2 to relearn what they already learned but forgot. In Year Round School kids achieve 10.05 math gain, while Traditional only achieves 7.71.  Same with writing, Year Round School achieves 10.52 and Traditional only achieves 8.91 (Statistic Brain).  They achieve more because they experience less knowledge burnouts.  One longitudinal study of six elementary schools, three on traditional calendars and three on year-round schedules, discovered positive effects of year-round education. It found that, in most cases, the sample of students in the year-round schools posted overall test-score increases that were higher than those of their traditionally schooled counterparts (Education Weekly).  So they learn more and will get higher test scores.  Since Year Round School Students academicly achieve more Year Round School is a great idea.

Niagara Falls
By Vivian
One day we went to the majestic Niagara Falls.  We bought tickets at a tinted glass booth to get a closer view of Niagara’s Fury.  Once the tickets were purchased we stepped into a very time-consuming line.  The boat ride must be popular because of all the people there.  The line spiraled down for hours.  There had to be 500 people in line.  Once the line was over we were stuffed into an elevator to get into another line.  We were handed these blue plastic rain coats in a tent and we tried them on.  It fit us perfectly.  I put the cap over my head and instantly it became really hot in the rain coat.  I took the cap off until we got into

I watched in horror as a dark hooded creature stood in front of me.  It wore a ragged, black cloak, its skin was wrinkly and gray.  He came up to me and...

"Ahhhhh!" I screamed

I had just waken up from the most horrifying dream.  I stared at my closet and peaked under my bed.  No monsters.  I tried going back to sleep but the thought of the monster was enough to keep me awake all night.  The next morning I was so tired.

"Wow, you look like a crusty, red eyed zombie," commented my brother Max.

"Go away," I said tiredly

I got dressed and went to the kitchen.

"Hailey you look horrible," my sister Aly said, "What happened did you fall out of a tree?"

"Just a bad dream." I replied

Suddenly my surroundings changed and I was in a dark forest.

Dashy
By Vivian

One day Dashy’s dog owner died and Dashy the Labrador retriever inherited all of his belongings.  His owner was very rich and he had a really jealous son.  “He’s a dog he can’t inherit anything.” His son said but, everyone disagreed.  This made him really mad and he vowed to kill the dog.  Dashy was in grief danger.  The man’s divorced wife Azul took care of Dashy then she heard about her son in law’s rage.  She knew since his son Mo was secretary of the state he would send armies to search for Dashy.  She knew right away she had to do.  She took Dashy to Arabia, there they would hide in a hide out her parents hid in during the war.  It was a roomy underground place.  Before going in Azul put in a year’s worth of food, beds cooking utensils, water, 50 yards of cloth and 1000 yards of string because she knew Mo wouldn’t give up easily.  Dashy was more than the average dog he could speak to humans and Azul never noticed.  “Thank you.”

Disappearances

It was a dark night on Avondale Ln.  The wind was whistling like a ghost and the moon was full.  Then the wind blew louder and louder as if screaming, leaves rustled, the street lamps flickered on and off and finally blew out.  Suddenly it became silent, so silent you could hear a needle drop.  Then there was a shrill scream bellowing through the neighborhood.

The next morning the street was silent.  No one came in or out of the house or turned on lights.  In the afternoon the paper came but no one came out to get it.  Day past and there were no signs of life.

The New World

It had been day since we've seen land.  The Virginia Company sent my Mistress, Ms. Ruth Watson a  plump old woman, about 40.  Since she went I had to too.  As her servant I had many duties.

It was a cold March evening when my Mistress received a letter that she was approved to go to Jamestown.  I packed 3 dresses, 1 pair of comfortable shoes, socks and a hat.  My Mistress packed 9 dresses, a cap, fancy shoes, socks and a flowered bonnet.  Around April 9th we set off for Jamestown.  The deck was dark and crowded.  I seemed like 10 years until we reached Jamestown.

The first step I took in Jamestown was a very memorable one.  Many men crowded around me asking to carry my bag.  All the way to Ms. Watson's cabin men tried to woo me.  At the cabin I unpacked and tidied up.  Ms. Watson just stared at me as if I were evil.

Zombie Apocalypse
By Vivian

“A little bit of this, a little bit of that.  Yes it is finished!  Mua-ha-hah!” exclaimed evil Dr. Michael Corps.  He had just created a germ called the Cronos germ it turns people into the living undead and the infected could pass on the germ with a bite.  While cleaning up he took a whiff of the germ and he was transformed into a raggedy undead monster and he was craving for brains.

Thurs 5min Writing: Realistic Fiction

Maybe it’s because I push myself too hard during competitive events, that if I don’t win it feels like my life is over.

A few months ago I made it to the Spelling Bee Nationals.  I was doing really good until I spelled the word “Euouae” wrong.  I was so mad at myself.  I threw a fit on stage, kicking and yelling.  They dragged me off the stage as I was thinking of what a failure and how embarrassed I was.  I was even more embarrassed when I was walking out of the auditorium.  Everyone was staring at me knowing that I was the kid who threw a fit over getting a word wrong.  You may wonder why I threw a fit.  A month prior to the Bee, I started locking myself in my room after school reading dictionaries.  I started with the hand book types and then to the big ones like the one my language arts teacher had on a large pedestal at the front of the class room.  I worked so hard to fail.  I spent a week in my room.  I mourned about how the trophy ended up in Bessie Kohl’s hands and not mine.  People say I over react, but that is just how I take failure.

When I was three I went on a trip to China.  I would love to tell you about the whole week I was there, but that would be too long.  I'm going to tell you about the night where I went to The Oriental Pearl Tower.

I couldn't wait to eat dinner at the buffet in The Oriental Pearl Tower.  My parents told me that the part we were eating dinner in spun!  Once we got there I looked at the humongous tower.

we went up the elevator to the buffet.  It took a while to get a table, but it was worth it.  Our table was right next to a window!  I sat right next to it.  I peered out the window.  It looked like I could see the whole China from up there.  The good thing was I didn't have to go to a different window to see the other side, because the tower spun.  The whole night was so fun.  I wish I could go there again.

A Movie Review: Frozen

Frozen is one of my favorite movies.  All of the charecters are so amazing.  The main charecter is Princess Anna.  She is really nice, bright and will sacrafice anything for her loved ones.  Her flaws are she is so ditermined to do thing she risks her life and she is a little too nosey.  The next charecter is Elsa.  In my opinion she is my favorite.  Elsa, Anna's sister has magical ice powers.  Her powers are so strong she can' t control them somtimes.  She is caring and in my opinion she is pretty cool.  Another charecter is Christoph he helps Anna in her journey.  Sphin, Christoph's reindeer also helps.  The funiest charecter is Olaf the snowman.  He is funny because he is kind of dumb so he doesn't know about a lot of things.  Now I'm going to tell you about Prince Hans.  Prince Hans is very underhanding and the 12th in line to be king in his kingdom.  There are some charecters I didn'mension, but their just as important as the others.  With all of these charecter they put together a great movie.   The songs are great.  My favorite song is Let it Go that is sung by Elsa.   All the other songs are also good.  I give this movie five stars because it deserves it.  ★;-) ★
